BEAR GLACIER
KENAI FJORDS NATIONAL PARK

Bayhawk water taxi.

Aquetec - Seward Alaska Water Taxi is the only water taxi servicing Bear Glacier. Are you looking for that unique Alaskan adventure where you feel you’re the last person on earth surrounded by mountains, glaciers, huge icebergs, incredible plant life and abundant wildlife? Then Bear Glacier is the ultimate adventure for you! Wildlife you can see includes black bear, goats, seals, wolves, coyotes, wolverine, waterfowl, birds of prey, shorebirds and more.

A pack-rafting or kayaking destination like no other, where one can glide silently between icebergs of enormous dimensions, surrounded by abundant wildlife and classic Alaskan sceneries, Bear Glacier is the largest glacier descending 5000 feet off the Harding Icefield and calves ice into a magnificent glacial lake 3 miles across at the face of the glacier. This area is also fantastic for overnight camping and hiking trips. Explore waterfalls and caves during the long Alaskan days and gather in the evenings around the campfire listening to wolves and coyotes and watching seals fish in the glacial stream.

Rafting here is amazing.

Enjoy the serenity of Bear Glacier in our packrafts.

BEAR GLACIER TRAVEL TIPS

  • June: Enjoy endless days and stunning summer solstice sceneries with great birding and black bear viewing as they graze on the mountain slopes.
  • Mid-June to end of July: Feast your eyes on the peak wildflower season.
  • August to September: Enjoy the increased glacier activity with huge, blue icebergs.
  • Late September: Great black bear viewing! Once the berries are gone, the bears return to the lowlands to dig roots.

Wildflowers abound at Bear Glacier.

Don't be deceived by size! The tunnel you see in the iceberg is 20 feet high!

At least four hours round trip on the water taxi with up to 22 people in your group.
No tour boats - no tour boat wakes.
Dozens of large tour boats (some carrying up to 250 passengers) going by daily with BIG wakes.
Very few visitors at one time - plenty of unrestricted private camping space.
Up to a dozen kayak companies with groups of up to 20 kayakers each in the area at one time, limiting camping space and privacy.
The face of Bear Glacier floats in the 300+ feet deep lake allowing huge icebergs to calve off into the lake, some of them over 100 feet high.
More fractured ice calving into salt water resulting in much smaller chunks of ice.
No commercial lodge - no cattle tours. Large 200+ person lodge by Pederson Lagoon currently under construction.
